Many people are taking advantage of an unwanted termination of full-time employment to start up a business of their own. For many people, this has always been a dream, but circumstances have now made it become a necessity. One of the biggest concerns for those who start their own business is finding affordable health insurance while self-employed. Since many people get their affordable health insurance coverage through their employer, they are usually not aware of the costs. Or perhaps they know how much their employer pays for a group health insurance plan, and know that this is a significant amount.

However, many people are not aware that individual plans are much more affordable health insurance than group health plans. Group health insurance providers are required to approve and accept all eligible group members into the plan. Therefore, the members that are in the group may have pre-existing medical conditions or high health risks, and these results in the group health plan premiums being high. This may not be affordable health insurance prices for most people. But for individual plans, health insurance carriers are allowed to disapprove potentially expensive high risk members. Therefore, they can keep the plans affordable health insurance for most people. Your age, geography, and gender will play a part in the premiums, of course. If you are healthy, you will be able to find affordable health insurance plans easily.

So if you are starting your own business, while you are figuring out your business plan and vision statement, be sure to consider purchasing affordable health insurance for yourself and your family members. This needs to be one of the first expenses to go on your financial plan. You can certainly purchase affordable health insurance from the private open market, and from any insurance provider of your choice. Almost all insurance providers have at least some affordable health insurance plans that may fit your needs and budget.

If you do have a pre-existing medical condition, or high health risks, and you believe that you will not be approved for affordable health insurance on the private market, you do have other options. You may not be aware that small businesses, with as few as two employees, are eligible to set up affordable health insurance group plans for their business. Like stated before, group plans will approve qualified members of a group, so you cannot be denied if your small business meets the criteria established by your state and insurance carrier. Even if group plans are more expensive than individual policies, if you are a high risk individual, then a group plan will be the most affordable health insurance that you are eligible to purchase.

Regardless of how you decide to get affordable health insurance, you will need to complete an application for yourself and every family member. This application then gets sent to medical underwriting for approval and to determine your premium costs. Once you are approved, you will have an effective date of when your benefits are in place. You will then be the proud owner of an affordable health insurance policy, and you will be protecting yourself and your loved ones in case of an unexpected illness or injury.
